12mm Inconel 625 Head Studs for Porsche 996TT, 997.1TT and even GT3!
These are our best 12mm Inconel 625 Head Studs for Porsche – 1000+whp. You’ve already proven you don’t compromise by owning a Porsche, so don’t fall short where it really counts! We’ve changed materials for even stronger studs.
Why do I need 12mm head studs if I already have upgraded 10mm head studs?
- 10mm aftermarket head studs are ok to a max of around 800ftlbs on these engines.
- If you’re wanting to run over 800hp/800ftlbs, you’ll definitely need to upgrade to 12mm.
What do they fit?
- 2001-2005 Porsche 996 turbo
- 2007-2009 Porsche 997.1 turbo
- 2000-2011 Porsche GT3 3.6, 3.8 and 4.0L
Do they require machine work?
- Yes, these require machine work to the case, liner carriers and cylinder heads for the larger threads and clearance.
- All GT3, 996 Turbo and 997.1 Turbo require machine work as well as Protomotive head and base gaskets (not included).
Waht are the torque recommendations?
- Settle at 15ftlbs, increase the torque to 30, 45, 60, 75 then final torque.
- Final Torque to 80-85 ft-lbs following oem sequence. Some shops are torquing to 100ftlbs, but be careful as you can crack the cylinder heads there!
- Recheck at final torque in a linear sequence just to be sure you’ve not missed any!
- We loctite them in the case on install and use motor oil on the threads when torqueing.
- There is no need to re-torque later as yield is about 30% above actual torque, so there’s plenty of strength left in these beyond the recommended torque settings.
What are other advantages of this head stud kit?
- They are easier to machine vs. time-sert type.
- The studs are longer for a deeper bite in the case, and have a larger thread. Don’t worry, the case has plenty of depth there. We’re not going any deeper than the original machinework in the case. Feel free to request assistance in machining, clearancing, or if you need tools for the install. We’re here to help!
Why use Inconel if Chromoly could already hold tremendous power?
- The alloys in these studs are so corrosion resistant, they’re polished vs. coated.
- The polishing also helps reduce any micro stress risers that could promote cracking down the road.
- The 12 point 14mm allow a much easier install with a small socket which will clear the valve springs.
- These nuts are also forged vs. machined.
- After stretch testing these studs, the nuts spun on and off easily. Even up to 130ftlbs!
Point is, they’re simply better…
